Interchange and Barnardos

With Bethany getting bigger, and with Jo now pregnant again, we have been looking into other forms of assistance we may be able to receive, and have come across some help through Interchange and Banardos, two wonderful organisations.

Barnardos has been able to assist by providing a volunteer worker for 2-3 hours per fortnight who will play with and look after Beth while Jo is able to do something else.  It allows Jo to go to the shops and have the volunteer assist pushing Beth around, or for Jo to be able to get some housework done or just have a rest if she needs it!  It also provides a welcome new playmate for Beth as well.

Interchange provides respite care and assistance as well, and they have been able to assist us by providing some monthly funding which goes towards paying for Petrol costs for our parents to come and visit us more regularly.  They can also provide funding and emergency respite care if needed.

Both of these are helping us going forward and we thank them.

Beth Passes 12Kg!

We visited the dietician last week, and after measuring her twice to make sure, Beth is now 82cm long and 12Kg in weight!  This is a great achievement and we are very thankful to the Lord!

Beth's new stroller arrives!

The new stoller has arrived and we are very pleased!  Beth sits a lot more supported in it - and it doesn't look too "disabled".  I'll post a pictue on this article soon.  It's a bit heavier than the old stoller, but you can take the chair off seperately with this one and then each piece alone is lighter than the present stroller.

ABR - new therapy PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 01 March 2009 23:06

We have been looking into ABR - Advanced Biomechanical Rehabilitation - for a little while, and the inventor of it had a seminar in Sydney recently, so we registered and went along, and after hearing what he presented, we have prayerfully decided to purse this therapy for Beth.  For more details about it, check out the ABR section under the therapies menu.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy PDF Print E-mail

We have been looking into a therapy option for Beth - Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).  It involves the use of a pressure chamber while breating in pure oxygen, such as sports stars do to accelerate the healing process for injuries.  Hospitals and medical staff do not believe that HBOT has any real effect on neurological conditions, however, anecdotal evidence seems to indicate it may.  See here for more information.

Seizures Return... Beth has put on weight PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 16 February 2009 23:04
Sorry to report that seizures have started returning again, a combination of spasms and tonic types.  We are upping her dose of vigabatrin as the dosage hasn't changed since she was 7Kg, and now she is around 11Kg.  Hopefully it is simply that the amount of medication is getting too small for her weight that is allowing the seizures to reappear.  We appreciate your prayers.
